Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

How does your attitude effect your decisions? What are the 5 steps of the decision making process?  In order to get it right, big decisions only need to be made after thinking about them carefully.  Seventh grade students in the BMS Career Center learned how to do just that this week.
Here are the winners of our Decisions, Decisions, Decisions contest for 1st and 4th periods. Good job!

Dear 3rd Period

November 17, 2015
Dear 3rd Period,
I am thankful for you!  I love the fact that you come in eager to learn every day and love to participate in our fun, and sometimes corny, activities. Each one of you bless me more than you’ll ever know because you are just you – bright, cheerful, and thoughtful – which are some of the adjectives that come to my mind when I think about you.  Thank you so much for being such a good bunch of 6th graders to teach!
I know all of you will be successful in life.  God bless you this Thanksgiving…I hope it’s the best one ever!
Sincerely,
Mrs. McBrayer

Dear 6th Period

November 17, 2015
Dear 6th Period,
I am thankful for you!  Do you know what I love about your class?  You truly are the BEST 6th period class I have ever had the privilege to teach!  You are well behaved (the best behaving 6th period class I have ever taught!), respectful, eager to learn, energetic, and the list goes on.  Both individually and collectively, you are just a sweet bunch of kids!  You even seem to enjoy my goofiness. (Lol and thanks!)  Above all, you demonstrate day in and day out all we have learned about work ethic. That’s icing on the cake for this teacher!
All of you are going to be successful.  I have no doubts about it!  I’m praying for God to bless you richly now and always.
Sincerely,
Mrs. McBrayer

Dear 4th Period

November 17, 2015
Dear 4th Period,
I am thankful for you!  Do you know what stands out the most about your class and each one of you individually?…That  you are HAPPY! As a matter of fact, you are the happiest bunch of youngsters I believe I have ever taught!  At the same time though, you know when to settle down and get to business, and for that I am truly thankful!  I also love the fact that you encourage and stand by each other.  Those are 2 qualities that will help you be successful in life.
I pray God blesses each one of you richly this Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Mrs. McBrayer

Dear 1st Period

November 16, 2015

Dear 1st Period,

I am thankful for you!  Both collectively and individually, you are a caring group of young people.  I love seeing you work together to help each other and me.  For example, you were eager to lend a hand when all those stuffed animals for Y-Club needed to be inspected and boxed up to be shipped overseas…all 327 of them!  You are also nice and respectful to each other, which is a breath of fresh air as I witness this day in and day out during class.

I know each of you will be successful in life!  I’m thanking God for you this Thanksgiving.

Blessings,

Mrs. McBrayer

Marketing Interpersonal Skills

How well do you interact with others?  For the past week in the BMS Career Center, 8th graders have been learning all about how demonstrating good interpersonal skills will help them be successful not only now as a student, but in the future as an employee as well.

Students’ culminating activity was producing a t-shirt with a catchy slogan and design that markets, or advertises, the interpersonal skills they have learned about.  Here are the winning t-shirts from 2nd and 5th periods!….

How can you solve a conflict without making others mad?  Is that even possible?

That’s what 8th graders have just recently learned about in Career Management class.  What better way to learn than to put your newly acquired skills to the test through the Conflict Resolution Challenge! Students were split into groups and given 3 different scenarios, or conflicts, to solve using both common sense and conflict management strategies they learned in class.

It’s Inspiration Time!

Every quarter in the BMS Career Center, each grade level class watches a motivational movie to inspire them on to greatness in life.  For 6th graders, it’s Facing the Giants, for 7th graders, it’s Gifted Hands, and for 8th graders, it’s To Save a Life.  My students absolutely love these movies and are so pumped up after watching them.  Hopefully, they will take that energy and change the world!
Yep!  It’s another good week in the BMS Career Center! 🙂

Building a Bridge to the Future

This week, all grade levels  have been working on meeting the Georgia Bridge Act requirements.  Sixth grade students complete an interest inventory, 7th grade students choose career clusters and complete the Reality Check activity, and 8th grade students decide on occupation(s) they might be interested in pursuing in the future.

The earlier students figure out what they want to do with their lives, the better!
