Dear 3rd Period
November 17, 2015
Dear 3rd Period,
I am thankful for you! I love the fact that you come in eager to learn every day and love to participate in our fun, and sometimes corny, activities. Each one of you bless me more than you’ll ever know because you are just you – bright, cheerful, and thoughtful – which are some of the adjectives that come to my mind when I think about you. Thank you so much for being such a good bunch of 6th graders to teach!
I know all of you will be successful in life. God bless you this Thanksgiving…I hope it’s the best one ever!
Sincerely,
Mrs. McBrayer
Dear 1st Period
November 16, 2015
Dear 1st Period,
I am thankful for you! Both collectively and individually, you are a caring group of young people. I love seeing you work together to help each other and me. For example, you were eager to lend a hand when all those stuffed animals for Y-Club needed to be inspected and boxed up to be shipped overseas…all 327 of them! You are also nice and respectful to each other, which is a breath of fresh air as I witness this day in and day out during class.
I know each of you will be successful in life! I’m thanking God for you this Thanksgiving.
Blessings,
Mrs. McBrayer
Marketing Interpersonal Skills
How well do you interact with others? For the past week in the BMS Career Center, 8th graders have been learning all about how demonstrating good interpersonal skills will help them be successful not only now as a student, but in the future as an employee as well.
Students’ culminating activity was producing a t-shirt with a catchy slogan and design that markets, or advertises, the interpersonal skills they have learned about. Here are the winning t-shirts from 2nd and 5th periods!….
Attitudes & Behaviors Challenge
Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Way to go to these 2nd quarter 7th grade Career Discovery students for winning the House Cup trophy for best presentation of our Acceptable and Unacceptable Attitudes’ and Behaviors’ Challenge. Do you have acceptable attitudes and behaviors? Your success in the future depends upon it!
It’s Inspiration Time!
Every quarter in the BMS Career Center, each grade level class watches a motivational movie to inspire them on to greatness in life. For 6th graders, it’s Facing the Giants, for 7th graders, it’s Gifted Hands, and for 8th graders, it’s To Save a Life. My students absolutely love these movies and are so pumped up after watching them. Hopefully, they will take that energy and change the world!
Yep! It’s another good week in the BMS Career Center! 🙂

Building a Bridge to the Future
This week, all grade levels have been working on meeting the Georgia Bridge Act requirements. Sixth grade students complete an interest inventory, 7th grade students choose career clusters and complete the Reality Check activity, and 8th grade students decide on occupation(s) they might be interested in pursuing in the future.
The earlier students figure out what they want to do with their lives, the better!

Family Budgeting Experts Show Off Their Skills!
Question: What do students take away from learning how to manage a family budget when you only bring home $10 an hour?
Answer: That it’s hard to make ends meet! 🙁

Conflict Resolution Champions!
How can you solve a conflict without making others mad? Is that even possible?
That’s what 8th graders have just recently learned about in Career Management class. What better way to learn than to put your newly acquired skills to the test through the Conflict Resolution Challenge! Students were split into groups of 3 or 4 and given 3 different scenarios, or conflicts, to solve using both common sense and conflict management strategies they learned in class.
And now for our winners….drum roll please!!!!

We’re Getting There!
Students are working diligently on their blogs learning all the ends and outs of how to set things up and all the verbiage that goes with it… plugins, widgets and the like. I’m very impressed with what my students are producing and can’t wait to press the publish button! The unveiling for student blogs will be no later that Friday, January 16, so please check back soon. You will be impressed!
