Inspiration Time!

March31
Every quarter in the BMS Career Center, each grade level class watches a motivational movie to inspire them on to greatness in life.  For 6th graders, it’s Facing the Giants, for 7th graders, it’s Gifted Hands, and for 8th graders, it’s To Save a Life.  My students absolutely love these movies and are so pumped up after watching them. Hopefully, they will take that energy and change the world!
Yep!  It’s another good week in the BMS Career Center! :)

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

February25
How does your attitude effect your decisions? What are the 5 steps of the decision making process?  In order to get it right, big decisions only need to be made after thinking about them carefully.  Seventh grade students in the BMS Career Center learned how to do just that this week.
Here are the winners of our Decisions, Decisions, Decisions contest for 1st and 4th periods. Good job!

Drone Fun!

February22
Mr. Joel Morris, our Future Friday speaker for 1st period last week, brought his drone with him and took these snap shots of BMS for us!  A realtor at Metro-West in Carrollton, Georgia, Mr. Morris employs the use of the drone in selling real estate. Not only did students learn the ins and outs of the real estate business, but they also received a STEM lesson on how modern technology is integrated into the work place.
Thank you so much Mr. Morris!

Dear 3rd Period

November17
November 17, 2015
Dear 3rd Period,
I am thankful for you!  I love the fact that you come in eager to learn every day and love to participate in our fun, and sometimes corny, activities. Each one of you bless me more than you’ll ever know because you are just you – bright, cheerful, and thoughtful – which are some of the adjectives that come to my mind when I think about you.  Thank you so much for being such a good bunch of 6th graders to teach!
I know all of you will be successful in life.  God bless you this Thanksgiving…I hope it’s the best one ever!
Sincerely,
Mrs. McBrayer

Dear 6th Period

November 17, 2015
Dear 6th Period,
I am thankful for you!  Do you know what I love about your class?  You truly are the BEST 6th period class I have ever had the privilege to teach!  You are well behaved (the best behaving 6th period class I have ever taught!), respectful, eager to learn, energetic, and the list goes on.  Both individually and collectively, you are just a sweet bunch of kids!  You even seem to enjoy my goofiness. (Lol and thanks!)  Above all, you demonstrate day in and day out all we have learned about work ethic. That’s icing on the cake for this teacher!
All of you are going to be successful.  I have no doubts about it!  I’m praying for God to bless you richly now and always.
Sincerely,
Mrs. McBrayer

Dear 4th Period

Dear 4th Period,
I am thankful for you!  Do you know what stands out the most about your class and each one of you individually?…That  you are HAPPY! As a matter of fact, you are the happiest bunch of youngsters I believe I have ever taught!  At the same time though, you know when to settle down and get to business, and for that I am truly thankful!  I also love the fact that you encourage and stand by each other.  Those are 2 qualities that will help you be successful in life.
I pray God blesses each one of you richly this Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Mrs. McBrayer

Dear 2nd & 5th Periods

November15
November 16, 2015
Dear 2nd & 5th Periods,
I am thankful for you!  I have now had the privilege of teaching you not only in 6th, not only in 7th, but also in 8th grade.  My how time has flown!  You have grown into some amazing young people.  Your energy and enthusiasm never ceases to amaze me (and wear me out on some days lol).  For example, everyone wants (even begs) to read the standard just to receive a devil dollar!  Why?…  Because you want to WIN! That competitive spirit is going to make every one of you a winner in life.  I have NO doubt about that!
You are awesome and I am thankful to have taught you throughout your middle school years.  Now, get to work and behave!
God bless you,
Mrs. McBrayer

Dear 1st Period

November 16, 2015

Dear 1st Period,

I am thankful for you!  Both collectively and individually, you are a caring group of young people.  I love seeing you work together to help each other and me.  For example, you were eager to lend a hand when all those stuffed animals for Y-Club needed to be inspected and boxed up to be shipped overseas…all 327 of them!  You are also nice and respectful to each other, which is a breath of fresh air as I witness this day in and day out during class.

I know each of you will be successful in life!  I’m thanking God for you this Thanksgiving.

Blessings,

Mrs. McBrayer

Hello Parents!

January23

Don’t forget to subscribe or follow your child’s blog! Just click on the link to their blog located in the right column of this page where it says meet our student bloggers. Hopefully students put a widget on their blog in order for you to be able to subscribe or follow them. If not, they can do it on a computer at home. Then you will get e-mails letting you know when they have added a post like I did today when my daughter posted something new! :)

What Do I Want To Be When I Grow Up???

January22

This is the question of the week students in the BMS Career Center are addressing. You would think it would be too daunting to answer, but for most students it’s not!

I love the fact that students really like to talk to each other about what they are going to do with their lives after they graduate high school.  They love looking down the long – but actually short! – road envisioning what their futures might be like.  (IT’S AWESOME TO BE THEIR TEACHER AND SEE THIS TAKING PLACE!  I TRULY DO HAVE AN AWESOME JOB!)

How do students go about accomplishing this task? We break it down in different ways.  When you read a 6th grader’s blog post on this subject, they are simply brainstorming prior knowledge they have acquired about what they want to be when they grow up, telling why they want to do it, and what they think it will take to get them there.  On the other hand, 7th graders are learning about the 17 Georgia Career Clusters and have to approach the question from that angle.  What’s your plan A, plan B, plan C? Eighth graders do all of that and then take it a step further by identifying the pathway they have to take to attain the career of their dreams.

Good things are happening in the BMS Career Center! #SuccessStoriesInTheMaking

Thank You Mr. Bishop and Skype Classroom!

A big thumbs up goes out to Mr. Bishop, his students in Bangladesh, and Skype for making our #MysterySkype such a success!  My students’ brains were in overdrive!  It was fun watching as students were mulling over the answers to their questions and trying to deduce where in the world Mr. Bishop and his students were.  Way to go Corrina for figuring it out… now go get you a piece of candy! :)  #FutureFridays  #MysterySkype

We are very excited to have our first #MysterySkype tomorrow! Second period 8th grade students will be meeting our Future Friday speaker, Mr. Jimmy Bishop, via #Skype and will try to figure out where he lives on planet Earth.  After that, he will be talking about his career.  #SkypeClassroom invited us to post pics on their website of our #MysterSkype session!  We will be posting them at education.skype.com/stories as well as on our blog.

Here are some of the questions students have submitted for our quest to pinpoint where he is:

  1.  Is it an Island?  Braeden
  2.  What is the dominate language?  Will & Anna Grace
  3.  Is it a larger country than the US?  Mariah
  4.  Are there (m)any deadly animals where you live?  Dani
  5.  What time zone are you in?  Katie & Olivia
  6.  What religion is most common in your country?  Austin,  Alivia, & Corrina
  7.  What’s the population of the country? John
  8.  What is it like outside? Are there a lot of trees around you?  Gracie
  9.  What hemisphere do you live in?  Bailey
  10.  What kind of food do you eat?  Jessie
  11. What’s the weather like?  Robert
  12.  What continent are you on?  Wyatt
  13.  What is the currency there?  Alayna
  14. What do you like most about where you live?  Mrs. McBrayer

We’re Getting There!

January10

Students are working diligently on their blogs learning all the ends and outs of how to set things up and all the verbiage that goes with it… plugins, widgets and the like.  I’m very impressed with what my students are producing and can’t wait to press the publish button!  The unveiling for student blogs will be no later that Friday, January 16, so please check back soon.  You will be impressed!

Welcome to the BMS Career Center Blog!

December30

On your mark, get set, go!

We are so excited to present to you, our parents, our community, and the world(!), the Bremen Middle School Career Center blog!

As a mother gives birth to a newborn babe, we too are giving birth to this new blog.  Ok, maybe that simile is a bit of a hyperbole, but, certainly, the labor will be difficult, and the product produced will be well worth the effort. Student blogs will be linked soon to our class blog, giving students the opportunity to share with others what they learn in class. Indeed, exposure to future employers is very important for students in the technology driven world we live in today, and presenting a portfolio of their best work on a blog teaches them one format of how to do just that.

The blog will also have a Student Tip of the Day, Coming Soon page, Career Tips, Winner Wednesday pics, and Future Friday’s link just for starters. Please remember, this is a work in progress.  We are learning and not perfect.  So sit back, scroll through, and enjoy… we are glad you stopped by for a visit. Please make it a habit!
